Allen Man Pleads Guilty to Stabbing a Man with a Knife

RAPID CITY, SD—U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Julian Poor Bear, age 19, of Allen, South Dakota, appeared before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on July 19, 2010, and pled guilty to an indictment which charged him with assault with a dangerous weapon. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both; and three years of supervised release. Poor Bear admitted that he stabbed a man with a knife which resulted in serious bodily injury to the man. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Law Enforcement Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney Gregg S. Peterman. A sentencing date was set for October 8, 2010. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
