RAPID CITY, SD—U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a man charged with involuntary manslaughter was sentenced on July 19, 2010, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Joe Marshall, a/k/a Joe Marshall-Burritt, age 54, of Rapid City was sentenced to 36 months of imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $15,731 and a special assessment of $100. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Law Enforcement Services, the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregg S. Peterman prosecuted the case. Marshall was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
