Missouri Man Charged with Crossing State Lines to Sexually Assault a Child

U.S. Attorney’s Office November 18, 2009
  • District of Minnesota (612) 664-5600

A 41-year-old Missouri man was charged in federal court yesterday with sexually assaulting a child while traveling with her from Virginia to Minnesota. Specifically, Robin Lynn Bourgeois, of Blue Springs, Missouri, was charged by criminal complaint with one count of crossing state lines with intent to engage in a sexual act with a child.

The complaint alleges Bourgeois left Virginia Beach, Virginia, by car, on July 31, 2007, accompanied by a girl, who, at the time, was 9. According to a FBI affidavit, Bourgeois told the girl’s mother that her daughter would be traveling with him and his 10-year-old daughter. However, the affidavit states his daughter actually left Virginia two weeks ahead of him and the 9-year-old.

During the three-day trip to Minnesota, Bourgeois and the child spent two nights together in motels in Virginia and Illinois. After the trip, the child stayed with Bourgeois at his then-Maple Grove, Minnesota, residence for about a month.

In June 2009, the child told her mother that Bourgeois touched her in a sexual manner during the 2007 trip. The child also told authorities about other alleged sexual encounters with Bourgeois while in Virginia as well as here in Minnesota. One of those encounters allegedly included being photographed while wearing a bikini to wash his truck.

If convicted of the federal charge filed against him, Bourgeois faces a potential maximum penalty of life in prison. All sentences are determined by a federal district court judge. This case is the result of an investigation by the FBI and the Maple Grove Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Clifford B. Wardlaw.
