Robbinsdale Man Indicted for Distributing Ecstasy

U.S. Attorney’s Office November 10, 2009
  • District of Minnesota (612) 664-5600

A federal grand jury has returned an indictment against a 28-year-old Robbinsdale man for allegedly distributing the semisynthetic psychedelic drug MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy. In an indictment filed with the U.S. District Court earlier today, Thongsay Prommachai was charged with count of distribution of ecstasy for allegedly selling 4,000 ecstasy pills, totaling 1,000 grams, on October 15, 2009.

According to a Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit, agents learned in October 2009 that Prommachai was selling ecstasy. They arranged for a controlled buy. On October 15, in the parking lot of a Cub Foods store in Crystal, which was the agreed meeting site, authorities observed Prommachai. He allegedly arrived at the lot, entered a different vehicle, and handed over to another person a bag containing the ecstasy. Authorities then moved in and arrested him.

If convicted, Proomachai faces a potential maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. All sentences are determined by a federal district court judge. This case is the result of an investigation by the FBI and St. Paul Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Christian S. Wilton.
