Rapid City Man Sentenced for Distributing Cocaine

United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced that a Rapid City man charged with distribution of a controlled substance was sentenced on May 18, 2009, by US District Court Judge Andrew W. Bogue. Cruz Esquivel Mendoza aka Daniel Esquivel, age 31, was sentenced to 120 months’ imprisonment, five years’ supervised release and a special assessment of $100 to the Victim’s Assistance Fund. Mendoza was originally indicted by a federal grand jury on November 20, 2007. In October 2004, Mendoza knowingly distributed cocaine in South Dakota He pled guilty to the charge on March 12, 2009. This case was investigated by the Denver Front Range Task Force, BIA, ATF and FBI. Assistant US Attorney Mark A. Vargo prosecuted the case. Mendoza was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshal.
