Man Indicted for Robbing Coon Rapids Bank

U.S. Attorney’s Office May 20, 2009
  • District of Minnesota (612) 664-5600

A 21-year-old man was indicted yesterday in federal court for allegedly holding up the Klein Bank of Coon Rapids on April 22.

Neiman Reagis Adams, unknown address, was charged with one count of armed bank robbery. His indictment alleges that he did by force, violence and intimidation take approximately $7,738 from the bank, located at 3070 Coon Rapids Blvd. The indictment also alleges that Adams did assault and put in jeopardy the life of another person by the use of a dangerous weapon.

According to a Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit, at approximately 9 a.m. on April 22, the robber entered the bank, walked to the teller counter and pulled out a handgun. The robber, later identified as Adams, held a white plastic garbage bag and told a teller to “fill the bag from the drawer. Hurry up.”

The teller complied, filled the bag and gave the bag to Adams who fled. Police reviewed the bank surveillance video and thought the suspect resembled a person known to them who lived a few blocks from the bank. Officers went to the apartment complex where that person lived, and observed Adams enter the building wearing clothes similar to that worn by the robber.

Law enforcement began surveillance on the apartment complex, and observed Adams enter a vehicle that left and drove eastbound on Coon Rapids Blvd. Shortly after Coon Rapids Police stopped the vehicle on a traffic violation, Adams jumped out of the front passenger seat and fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended, and officers recovered $6,762 in cash on Adams’s person and also found a semi-automatic handgun located next to a garbage can approximately 20 yards from where Adams was arrested.

Police executed a search warrant at Adams’s apartment on April 23 and seized clothing that matched those worn by the bank robber.

If convicted, Adams faces a potential maximum penalty of 25 years in prison. All sentences are determined by a federal district court judge. This case is the result of an investigation by the FBI and the Coon Rapids Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Erika R. Mozangue.
