MADISON, WI—John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Charles A. Evans, 40, Beloit, Wis., pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court in Madison to distributing heroin.

At today’s plea hearing, the prosecution presented a summary of evidence showing that on July 30, 2014, Evans sold heroin to an individual who was cooperating with law enforcement authorities. Evans admitted selling the heroin.

Judge James D. Peterson scheduled sentencing for May 22, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. Evans faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.

This case resulted from an investigation by G-ROC (pronounced gee-rock), a task force formed through the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Violent Crime Initiative, to address gang and drug-related violence in Rock County through the coordination of investigations among local and federal law enforcement agencies. Its members include the FBI; Rock County Sheriff’s Office; Beloit Police Department; and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Evans is the sixth person convicted of a federal drug or gun crime as the result of G-ROC investigations during the past year. Two other defendants are pending trial on heroin charges.

The prosecution of Evans is being handled by First Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Sinnott.
