MADISON, WI—John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Troy Cross, 47, Amery, Wis., pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court in Madison to possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it. Cross was charged in an indictment returned by a federal grand jury on June 5, 2014.

On August 23, 2013, officers with the Polk County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at Cross’s residence in Amery, and recovered methamphetamine, cocaine, a drug scale and packaging material. Cross’s DNA was later determined to be on the package containing the methamphetamine.

Cross faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison. U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson scheduled sentencing for February 18, 2015, at 1:00 p.m.

The charge against Cross was the result of a joint investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, St. Croix Valley Drug Task Force, and Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation. The prosecution of this case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey M. Anderson.
