Marshfield Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Possession of Child Pornography

MADISON, WI—John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that James Pearson, 54, Marshfield, Wisconsin, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 10 years in federal prison, to be followed by 30 years of supervised release, for possessing child pornography. Pearson pleaded guilty to this charge on November 25, 2013.
On March 18, 2013, an undercover officer in the Marshfield Police Department downloaded 831 images of child pornography from a computer traced to Pearson’s address. A search warrant revealed that Pearson possessed almost 3,000 images of child pornography on his computer and cell phone.
Pearson was subject to a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence for possession of child pornography due to prior convictions for attempted second degree sexual assault and fourth degree sexual assault in La Crosse County. Pearson also had two prior Sex Offender Registry violation convictions from South Carolina.
The charge against Pearson was the result of an investigation conducted by the Marshfield Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, and Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Pfluger.
