Former Village Clerk for Rock Springs Charged with Embezzlement

MADISON, WI—Stephen P. Sinnott, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Shea Howard, 35, North Freedom, Wis., was charged yesterday in an Information filed in U.S. District Court in Madison. The Information alleges that Howard, while employed as the Village Clerk for the Village of Rock Springs, Wis., embezzled approximately $9,250 of funds under the control of the Village of Rock Springs.

A guilty plea hearing before Chief Judge Barbara B. Crabb has been scheduled for March 5, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. Howard faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

United States Attorney Sinnott stated that yesterday's charge was the result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney John W. Vaudreuil.
