Repeat Credit Card Fraudster Sentenced to 70 Months’ Imprisonment

U.S. Attorney’s Office February 23, 2012
  • Southern District of Florida (305) 961-9001

Wifredo A. Ferrer, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and John V. Gillies, special agent in charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Miami Field Office, announce the sentencing of Damian Cruz Garcia, of Miami, Florida, who previously pled guilty to charges of illegally possessing thousands of stolen credit card account numbers. U.S. District Judge Ursula Ungaro sentenced Cruz Garcia to 70 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.

Cruz Garcia was arrested by FBI in June 2011 shortly after the FBI learned that he was attempting to enlist others in a scheme to purchase stolen credit card account numbers over the Internet. During the investigation, the FBI found thousands of credit card numbers on a computer and thumb drive in Cruz Garcia’s possession. Cruz Garcia was serving a term of probation from a South Carolina conviction while he committed the present offense.

Mr. Ferrer commended the investigative efforts of the FBI. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Harold Schimkat.
