  • Special Agent Michael D. Leverock (754) 703-2000

Key West Police Detectives and the FBI are working to identify two suspects who walked away from the Mel Fisher Museum Wednesday with a gold bar. The valuable artifact from the sunken ship Atocha is a familiar part of the museum, displayed in a case that allows visitors to lift it and feel its heft.

At about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, two people were captured on video breaking into the case and stealing the gold. One suspect is described as a white male, about six feet tall with dark hair and a medium build. The second suspect is about 5’6”.
