Augusta Man Sentenced to Nine Years for Downloading Child Pornography

COVINGTON, KY—A Bracken County man was sentenced today to nine years in federal prison for receiving child pornography.
Ronald Peed, Jr., 33, of Augusta, Kentucky, appeared in federal court before United States District Judge David L. Bunning. Judge Bunning also ordered that after Peed is released, he will be supervised by U.S. Probation for 15 years.
In April 2010, Peed pleaded guilty to the charge and admitted that he downloaded at least 600 images of child pornography over the Internet. His criminal activity was discovered during an FBI undercover operation.
Peed admitted that some of his child pornography images featured prepubescent children and that other images depicted violent and sadistic acts of child abuse.
The investigation into Peed was conducted by the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office and the FBI. The United States was represented in the case by the Fort Mitchell Branch Office of the United States Attorney.
Kerry B. Harvey, United States Attorney, Jack Conway, Attorney General of Kentucky, and Elizabeth Fries, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI, jointly made the announcement today after sentencing.
Under federal law, Peed must serve at least 85 percent of his prison term.
Upon release, he will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
