Three Men Sentenced for Robbing Annville Bank Six Years Ago

U.S. Attorney’s Office July 01, 2010
  • Eastern District of Kentucky (859) 233-2661

LONDON, KY—The United States Attorney’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation jointly announced today that three men were sentenced yesterday to a combined 807 months in prison for their roles in robbing an Annville, Kentucky bank of more than $200,000 in 2004.

Michael Gilliam, 50, of Delphia, Kentucky; Kevin Michael Green, 38, of Corbin, Kentucky; and Randy Lee Ryan Gilliam, 22, of Slemp, Kentucky, were sentenced to 377 months, 330 months, and 100 months respectively.

Kevin Green and Ryan Gilliam previously pleaded guilty to armed bank robbery involving kidnapping and use of a firearm during a crime of violence. Michael Gilliam was convicted of those charges after a jury trial in January of this year.

In June 2004, Michael Gilliam and Green conducted surveillance of the Citizens Bank in Annville and targeted one of the employees. Michael Gilliam subsequently dropped Kevin Green and Randy Lee Ryan Gilliam off at the employee’s residence, where Green and Randy Gilliam waited for the female employee to arrive home. Once she arrived, the two men forced her into the residence at gunpoint and they bound her and her husband with wire ties.

The couple was then forced at gunpoint to return to the bank in order to open the bank’s safe. The bank branch manager, a custodian and the custodian’s 4-year-old child were present at the bank. All of the victims were bound by wire ties except the child.

Green and Ryan Gilliam gained access to the safe, and stole $206,000 and then escaped in the victims’ car. Trial testimony revealed that Michael Gilliam came up with the robbery plan, conducted surveillance while the robbery occurred, and picked up his accomplices following the robbery at a prearranged location.

Kevin Green also pleaded guilty to a similar robbery that occurred in Harrogate, Tenn. As part of his plea agreement, he also agreed that he was responsible for the 2007 attempted robbery of the Hyden Citizens Bank in Wooten, Kentucky. and the 2007 robbery of the BB&T bank in Pikeville, Kentucky. Randy Lee Ryan Gilliam also admitted that he was involved in the attempted robbery of the Hyden Citizens Bank.
