Multi-Agency Training Exercise to be Held Overnight at Orange County Shopping Centers to Test Interagency Operability and Promote Preparedness in Response to Mass Casualty Attack

Note: The below-described event is a training exercise and is not being held in response to any current threat. Every effort has been made to schedule this exercise so that it does not interfere with normal mall operations. The public may see law enforcement activity during the exercise at locations including The Shops at Mission Viejo and South Coast Plaza and is respectfully asked to avoid the mall property during this time.

Why:

The FBI has partnered with representatives from state and local law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, and the private sector to execute a training exercise involving a mall attack scenario developed to promote preparedness. During 2013, all FBI field offices hosted discussions with public safety and private sector partners that focused on preparedness, response, and recovery efforts necessary to effectively address a complex attack of this kind. During 2014, all FBI field offices are conducting full-scale training exercises with public and private sector partners.
