Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

August 8, 2014 update: The suspect has since been identified as Jonathan Wade Oeschle, 47, whose last known residence was Anaheim, California. Investigators with the Orange County Bank Robbery Apprehension Team (FBI and Orange County Sheriff’s Department) confirmed that Oeschle is suspected in the series of bank robberies attributed to the recently publicized “Quad Bandit.” Oeschle was charged today in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles and had an initial appearance before a federal magistrate this afternoon in Santa Ana.  He was remanded to federal custody pending trial.

On August 7 at approximately 3:53 p.m., Brea Police responded to the Bank of the West at 311 S. State College Blvd. regarding a bank robbery that had just occurred. The suspect used a note during the robbery and was seen leaving the area in a silver Chevrolet Cavalier.

Information regarding the description of the robber and his vehicle was broadcast to neighboring law enforcement agencies. Officers from the Fullerton Police Department saw the suspect vehicle in the area of State College Blvd./Chapman in the city of Fullerton. When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect initially appeared to be pulling over but then sped away. Fullerton officers pursued the suspect for approximately 2 miles until he crashed into a curb in the 1600 block of Skyline in Fullerton. The suspect surrendered to officers at the scene without further incident.

The suspect will be booked at the Brea Police Department for robbery and charges related to the pursuit. The suspect’s photograph will not be released at this time, as Investigators work to determine if he may be responsible for other recent robberies.
