Husband and Wife Sentenced to 30 Years and 15 Years for Drug Trafficking Offenses

TEXARKANA, AR—Conner Eldridge, United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, announced today that Rebecca Miller, age 39, of Doddridge, Arkansas, and Daniel Miller, age 37, of Doddridge, Arkansas, were sentenced in federal court Thursday and Friday, respectively. United States District Court Judge Harry Barnes sentenced Rebecca Miller to 15 years’ imprisonment with no parole and four years’ supervised release. Judge Barnes sentenced Daniel Miller to 30 years’ imprisonment with no parole and five years’ supervised release. Rebecca Miller was sentenced for one count of conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine and three counts of aiding and abetting others in the distribution of more than five grams of methamphetamine. Daniel Miller was sentenced for one count of conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine and four counts of aiding and abetting others in the distribution of more than five grams of methamphetamine. Following trial, a jury found Rebecca and Daniel Miller guilty of the above named offenses on May 25, 2011.

Conner Eldridge, United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas commented, “These two defendants conspired to distribute large quantities of methamphetamine and used their minor son to further their drug enterprise. Such conduct is reprehensible. The drug trade preys on our communities in so many ways. We remain focused on prosecuting those responsible.”

Evidence presented at trial showed that, beginning in 2003 and continuing on until December 2010, Daniel Miller distributed multiple kilograms of methamphetamine in the Texarkana area, to include Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana. The evidence also showed that Rebecca Miller assisted him on certain occasions by accepting money from customers knowing that it was payment for methamphetamine. At Daniel Miller’s sentencing hearing, the Honorable Harry Barnes found that Daniel Miller organized a drug trafficking ring where he used his 17-year-old son to facilitate the delivery of methamphetamine.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Shreveport Police Department, Arkansas State Police, Louisiana State Police, Miller County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bi-State Narcotics Task Force. Assistant United States Attorneys Matthew Quinn and Kenneth Elser prosecuted the case for the United States.
