Sarah Zeigler – Ombudsman (an internal position for the benefit of onboard FBI employees)

Sarah Zeigler was raised in Wilmette, Illinois, and she graduated in 1971 from high school in Winnetka, Illinois. Prior to entering on duty with the FBI in 1981, she worked in private industry in the Chicago area, where she acquired a variety of office skills.

Prior to assuming the position of Ombudsman in 1997, she served as a Supervisory Employee Relations Specialist in the Office of Professional Responsibility. She founded the FBI's Support Employee Advisory Committee, Aegis, and was the first Chairperson of a Director's Advisory Committee to coordinate a joint meeting of the chairs for the purpose of addressing crossover issues. She has served as an EEO Counselor, and she developed Violence in the Workplace protocol for the FBI.

In her capacity as an internal Ombudsman, Mrs. Zeigler works to achieve balance and harmony in the workplace through fostering good communication on multiple levels for FBI employees. She views her role as a partnership with employees and management in ensuring that issues of significance to the Bureau are surfaced at appropriate levels. She offers confidential, impartial assistance to employees who are experiencing difficult workplace problems, and she generates options for resolution. She is also available to answer questions, to provide coaching and referrals, and to simply listen. Mrs. Zeigler's "Ombudsman Corner" of the Investigator provides helpful advice on issues that routinely surface to an Ombudsman.

Mrs. Zeigler is a member in good standing with The Ombudsman Association, and she holds a certificate in Conflict Resolution from American University.
