Louis F. Quijas - Assistant Director, Office of Law Enforcement Coordination

On 4/10/2002, Director Robert S. Mueller, III appointed Louis F. Quijas to the position of Assistant Director to oversee the efforts of the newly created Office of Law Enforcement Coordination.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Quijas was Chief of Police for the City of High Point, North Carolina, after serving 25 years with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department. Mr. Quijas joined the Kansas City Police Department in July 1972 where he was sworn in by then Police Chief Clarence M. Kelley, former Director of the FBI.

During his tenure as Chief of Police of High Point, Mr. Quijas received national recognition for his cities' innovative and effective violent crime reduction strategy. The strategy which was community driven and focused on prevention was praised by the U.S. Department of Justice and has been used as a model for many law enforcement agencies across the country.

Mr. Quijas has been an active member in his profession and has served on several national boards. Most notably, as National President of the National Latino Peace Officers Association, National Board member of the Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association, Executive Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and currently serves on the IACP's Civil Rights Committee and the Committee on Terrorism.

Mr. Quijas has a history of community involvement and participation. Prior to his move to Washington, D.C., he served on the Board of Directors at the Center for the Study of Social Issues at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and was Co-Director of that institution's Division for the Prevention of Youth Violence and Aggression. In October of 2002, Mr. Quijas was named by Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the top 100 influential Hispanics in the United States. Mr. Quijas was also the recipient of the National Sheriffs' Association 2004 President's Award for his dedicated service to law enforcement.

Mr. Quijas holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Masters Degree in Public Affairs. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Senior Management Institute for Police, the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program, John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and FBI's National Executive Institute.
