Shannon Cavin Indicted for Multiple Robberies

GREENEVILLE, TN—A federal grand jury in Greeneville returned a four-count indictment on May 11, 2010, charging Shannon Cavin, 38, of Rogersville, Tennessee, with bank and credit union robbery and two convenience store robberies.

The indictment alleges that Cavin did by force, violence, and intimidation, take U.S. currency from the person and presence of Peoples Community Bank, 1706 Highway 93, Fall Branch, Tennessee, a bank whose deposits were then insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and the Kingsport Press Credit Union, the deposits of which were then insured by the National Credit Union Association Board.

The indictment also alleges that Cavin did unlawfully, knowingly, and willfully take and obtain personal property consisting of U.S. currency from an employee of the Roadrunner Market, located at 4101 Ft. Henry Drive, Kingsport, Tennessee and from an employee at Dot and Rick’s Market, located at 2607 Highway 11W, Surgoinsville, Tennessee, against their will by means of actual and threatened force, violence, and fear in injury, immediate and future, to his person, that did unlawfully obstruct interstate commerce.

If convicted, Shannon Cavin faces a maximum of 25 years each on the bank and credit union robberies and up to 20 years each on the convenience store robberies, a maximum $250,000 fine on each count, a maximum of five years of supervised release on each count, and restitution.

This indictment is the result of investigations by the Kingsport Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, the Church Hill Police Department, the Surgoinsville Police Department, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert M. Reeves will represent the United States.
