  • Public Affairs Specialist Joyce McCants (865) 544-0751

The Knoxville Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Chief Sterling Owen IV of the Knoxville Police Department (KPD) are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the man who robbed a Knoxville bank today.

At approximately 4:00 this afternoon, a man entered the Fifth Third Bank located at 5221 Broadway in Knoxville, demanded money, and gestured to have a weapon. Witnesses described the suspect as a white male, mid-30s, between 5’10” and 6’ tall, weighing approximately 175 to 185 pounds. The suspect was wearing blue jeans, a black shirt, dark sunglasses and a white baseball cap. After obtaining an undetermined amount of money, the suspect left the scene in a vehicle witnesses described as a late 1980s, faded, navy-blue, four-door station wagon (possibly a Chevrolet). Vehicle was last seen headed south on Broadway.

The suspect is believed to be the same individual who cased the UT Federal Credit Union and robbed the BB&T Bank located at 707 E. Emory Road this past Friday.

A reward is being offered for any information which leads to the arrest of this individual. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 865-544-0751 or the KPD at 865-215-7212.  This matter is being investigated jointly by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force (SSTF) and KPD Major Crimes Unit.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
