The Knoxville Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Chief Tony Crisp of the Maryville Police Department (MPD) are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the man who robbed a Maryville bank today. The Blount County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) and the Alcoa Police Department (APD) assisted with the initial response.

At approximately 11:40 this morning, a man entered the Y-12 Federal Credit Union located at 624 West Lamar Alexander Parkway in Maryville and presented a device which bank employees believed to be an explosive device. Witnesses described the suspect as a black male, late 20s to mid 30s, dark complexion, medium to slender build, between 6’and 6’2” tall. The suspect spoke with a Jamaican or Bahamian accent. The suspect was wearing an olive drab, green jacket with a hood which was pulled over a lighter colored knit cap. Suspect had a large, over-sized beard, which appeared to be intermingled with a false beard which was red in color. Suspect was wearing large, silver, aviator-style sunglasses. After obtaining an undetermined amount of money, the suspect left the scene on foot.

A reward is being offered for information which leads to the arrest of this individual. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 865-544-0751 or the Maryville Police Department at 865-273-3700. This matter is being jointly investigated by the FBI SSTF and the Maryville Police Department.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
