Photograph of MaleaMy name is ”Malea,” which is “Mary” in Hawaiian. I am a Labrador Retriever. I was born on November 22, 2005, and raised in Annandale, Virginia, by Rachel. Rachel did a great job of helping to socialize me by exposing me to shopping malls, noises, and other animals (dogs, ferrets, and even a rat). I went to school at Canine Companions for Independence in Farmingdale, New York, graduating with my partner, Mary, on May 17, 2008. I know a total of 50 commands, including how to open and close doors, turn lights on and off, pick up things from the floor, and even carry items in my mouth. My favorite command is “lap,” where I put my front paws up on Mary’s lap, and she gives me a big hug. It is great coming to work everyday with Mary at the FBI.
