Lawrence Man Charged in Wichita Bank Robbery

WICHITA—A Lawrence man was charged today with robbing a bank in Wichita, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said.
Matthew Greenlee, 25, Lawrence, Kansas, was charged with one count of bank robbery. An affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint alleged that at about 3:45 p.m. on January 16, Greenlee robbed the Bank of America at 7310 W. 21st in Wichita. He gave the teller a note saying to put the money in his bag. The note ended with “thxs and plz.” He took the money and left the bank.
Less than two hours later, while investigators were still processing the crime scene, Greenlee returned to the bank with his father and surrendered to them.
If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years and a fine up to $250,000. The Wichita Police Department and the FBI investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart is prosecuting.
