Wabaunsee County Woman Sentenced for Mortgage Fraud

TOPEKA, KS—A woman from Wabaunsee County, Kansas has been sentenced to two years federal probation and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine for mortgage fraud, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.
Linda Kay Miller, 51, Alma, Kansas, pleaded guilty to one count of bank fraud. In her plea, she admitted fraudulently submitting false documents to New Century Bank of Manhattan, Kansas, in an effort to obtain a $200,000 mortgage loan. Miller admitted she created documents falsely stating that a $65,000 second mortgage on her home in Wabaunsee County had been paid in full. She filed the false documents with the Wabaunsee County Register of Deeds.
Grissom commended the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Department, the FBI, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Hathaway for their work on the case.
