Kansas Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Robbery That Ended in Shooting

KANSAS CITY, KS—A Kansas City, Kansas man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for a convenience store robbery during which his accomplice was shot by a clerk, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.
Jerome Brown, 22, of Kansas City, Kansas, was sentenced to 121 months. Brown pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery in violation of the Hobbs Act and one count of carrying a firearm during an armed robbery.
In his plea, Brown admitted that on January 10, 2011, he and co-defendant Donnell H. Roberson, 25, of Kansas City, Kansas, robbed the Everyday Convenience Store at 6828 Kaw Drive in Kansas City, Kansas. They entered the store wearing ski masks and carrying handguns. During the robbery, the clerk shot Roberson, and the robbers fled the scene.
Within minutes of the robbery, Roberson went to Providence Medical Center with a gunshot wound. Both men were indicted March 30, 2011. Brown was arrested August 15, 2011.
Roberson is set for sentencing December 5, 2012.
This case was highlighted in a March 31, 2011, news conference in Kansas City, Kansas that focused on the tools that federal prosecutors use to fight gun violence.
Grissom commended the Kansas City (Kansas) Police Department, the FBI, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra Morehead for their work on the case.
