Wisconsin Man Sentenced for Independence Bank Robbery

KANSAS CITY, MO—Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Wisconsin man was sentenced in federal court today for robbing an Independence, Mo., bank.
Glen Duplessis, 53, of Wisconsin, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays to 12 years and seven months in federal prison without parole.
On Oct. 20, 2010, Duplessis pleaded guilty to robbing First Federal Bank, 3500 S. Noland Rd., Independence. Duplessis admitted that he entered the bank on June 14, 2010. Duplessis approached a teller and told her that the bank was being robbed and to give him the money. After taking $1,450 from the teller, Duplessis left the bank.
A customer of the bank followed Duplessis and used his vehicle to block the vehicle that Duplessis was apparently trying to get into. When police officers arrived, Duplessis fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. Police officers pursued Duplessis and arrested him.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bruce E. Clark. It was investigated by the Independence, Mo., Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
