Two Charged with Robbery at Radio Shack in Overland Park

KANSAS CITY, KS—Two Missouri men have been charged with an armed robbery at a Radio Shack in Overland Park, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.

Abasi S. Baker, 31, Kansas City, Mo., and Mark R. Davis, 33, Kansas City, Mo., were charged with one count of armed robbery, one count of brandishing a firearm during a robbery, and one count each of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.

A federal criminal complaint filed today in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan., alleges that about 7:15 p.m. March 3, the two robbed the Radio Shack store at 6945 W. 75th Street in Overland Park. One of the men entered the store wearing a grey sweatshirt with hood and a black bandana pulled over his nose. The robber pointed a firearm at the clerk’s chest and held out a plastic shopping bag. The clerk put money from the cash register in the bag and the robber left the store. Another store employee saw the robber get into the passenger side of a grey, four-door Honda and the car drive away.

Following the robbery, Kansas City (Kansas) police officers and FBI agents stopped a car in the vicinity of Highway 71 and 55th Street in Kansas City, Mo. Baker was driving and Davis was a passenger. Officers recovered a white, plastic sack containing cash, a .40 caliber Glock pistol, and a grey sweatshirt with hood.

At the time of the crime, both men were prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm because of prior felony convictions.

If convicted, they face a maximum penalty of 20 years and fine up to $250,000 on the robbery charge, a penalty of not less than seven years and not more than life and a fine up to $250,000 on the charge of brandishing a firearm, and a maximum penalty of 10 years and a fine up to $250,000 on the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Agencies that investigated include the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Kansas City (Kansas) Police Department, the Overland Park (Kansas) Police Department, the Olathe (Kansas) Police Department, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, the St. Joseph (Missouri) Police Department, the Lee’s Summit (Missouri) Police Department, the Mission (Kansas) Police Department and the Kansas City (Missouri) Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra Morehead is prosecuting.

In all cases, defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The indictments merely contain allegations of criminal conduct.
