The Heart of America Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory (HARCFL) announces the presentation of the Forensic Programming Challenge (FPC) Award to Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, Missouri.  The FPC is designed to engage college students within the growing field of digital forensic.  Digital forensics, utilized daily by law enforcement for investigative purposes, is the application of science and engineering for the recovery of digital evidence in legally acceptable method.  Using digital forensics, examiners are capable of locating deleted, encrypted or damaged file information that may serve as evidence in a criminal investigation.

The FPC was initiated in spring 2009, with the final award selection recently completed, in which Southwest Baptist University was selected as this year’s innovative winner.  Students were given the unique opportunity to not only conceptualize but also to create a tool for possible use in the work place.  The students were challenged to create a quick and efficient tool that locates and reports information related to the usage of peer-to-peer (P2P) software on an evidentiary hard drive.

Representatives of Southwest Baptist University will be presented a commemorative plaque as well as a monetary award for the University.
