Indictments Returned in Hammond Federal Court

HAMMOND, IN—The United States Attorney’s Office announced that the following indictments were returned on October 18, 2011:

Martin Jonassen, 55, of Elwood, Kansas, was charged in an indictment with the felony offenses of kidnapping and obstruction of justice. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Portage Police Department. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jill Koster.

LaMonte Mallet, 29, of Gary, Indiana, was charged in an indictment with the felony offenses of distribution of crack cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and distribution of marijuana. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Kolar.

Cosvell W. Glover, Jr., 35, of Gary, Indiana, was charged in an indictment with the felony offenses of distribution of marijuana and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation GRIT Task Force. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Kolar.

The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The United States Attorney’s Office emphasized that an Indictment is merely an allegation and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
