Man Charged in Series of Eight Indianapolis Bank Robberies

U.S. Attorney’s Office June 20, 2011
  • Southern District of Indiana (317) 226-6333

INDIANAPOLIS—Joseph H. Hogsett, United States Attorney, announced today that Floyd McDaniel, a/k/a Floyd Tyson, 45, Indianapolis, was charged with eight bank robberies in Indianapolis, including banks located at 7491 North Shadeland, 3938 East 82nd Street, 6210 Allisonville Road, and the 6830 Lake Plaza Drive. It is alleged that McDaniel committed four bank robberies in March 2011. He was detained following his being captured outside the last bank he is alleged to have robbed on March 23, 2011. McDaniel was federally charged by criminal complaint in March with the four bank robberies committed that month, and has been detained in jail since that time by order of the United States District Court. Since his arrest, McDaniel’s alleged connection to four other bank robberies was investigated. He is now charged with perpetrating those bank robberies as well.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Brant Cook, who is prosecuting the case for the government, McDaniel faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each of the eight counts of bank robbery. An initial hearing will be scheduled in Indianapolis before a U.S. Magistrate Judge. This case was charged as a result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.

An information is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
