Elberfeld Man Charged with Two Bank Robberies

Timothy M. Morrison, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, announced that CHARLES E. MILLER, II, 49, of Elberfeld, Indiana, was indicted by a federal grand jury sitting in Indianapolis for two bank robberies and use of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Indiana State Police.

The indictment alleges that on April 17, 2009, Charles E. Miller, II entered the Integra Bank branch on State Road 61 in Winslow, Indiana, demanded and obtained money, all while carrying a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol. The indictment further alleges in a second count that on February 17, 2009, Charles E. Miller, II robbed the Fifth Third Bank branch located on East Highway 68, Haubstadt, Indiana of money while carrying a Browning 9 mm pistol with a ported barrel.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd S. Shellenbarger, who is prosecuting the case for the government, MILLER faces a maximum possible prison sentence of 25 years for each bank robbery charged and life imprisonment if convicted for use of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. An initial hearing will be scheduled before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Evansville, Indiana.

The indictment is an allegation only, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at trial or by guilty plea.
