The FBI, working with our law enforcement partners, routinely conducts threat assessments on every major event throughout the country. These threat assessments are conducted in an effort to provide situational awareness to security planners and law enforcement personnel involved in the particular event.

Michael S. Welch, Special Agent in Charge of the Indianapolis Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today that the FBI is working closely with law enforcement, intelligence and corporate security partners to ensure the safety of basketball fans attending the 2009 Big 10 Basketball Tournament. SAC Welch said, “There is no credible information indicating the Big 10 Basketball Tournament being held at Conseco Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, Indiana, is being targeted by international or domestic terrorists. We will continue to work with our partners and vigilantly monitor intelligence and potential threat information to ensure the safety, security and success of this and all special events in Indiana.”

The FBI remains committed to ensuring the public safety and is responsive to any new information developed. The public is reminded to immediately report any suspicious behavior or activities to law enforcement personnel.
