Elkhart Resident Arrested in Joint Investigation

Michael S. Welch, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Indianapolis Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announces the arrest of DR. LESLEY M. SCHOLL of Elkhart, Indiana, on January 22, 2009.

Dr. Scholl was arrested, without incident, in the evening hours of January 22, 2009, by Special Agents of the FBI at the Elkhart Police Department, Elkhart, Indiana. The arrest was as a result of a fast-moving joint investigation by the FBI, Indiana State Police (ISP), Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Task Force, and the Elkhart Police Department. Dr. Scholl is being charged with violation of Title 26, United States Code (USC), Section 5861(e), knowingly transferring a Class Three weapon, a silencer, and violation of Title 18, USC, Section 1958, use of interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder-for-hire.

SAC Welch wishes to recognize the dedication and tireless efforts of the law enforcement officers and Agents involved in this investigation. Their cooperation and assistance was extremely beneficial.

Dr. Scholl is scheduled for his initial appearance at the United States District Court, South Bend, Indiana, at 2:00 p.m., on January 23, 2009.
