Qualifications include the following:

• BS In chemistry, biology, forensics, or another related scientific field
• Practical working experience in a forensic laboratory
• Practical working experience in court testimony as an expert witness
• Above-average knowledge of and ability to apply scientific methods and disciplines of laboratory testing and analysis
• Skilled in using gas chromatography, mass spectroscopy, ultraviolet and infrared spectrophotometry, and other drug-screening equipment
• Must be able to work independently

Responsibilities include the following:

• Searching, collecting, examining, and evaluating scientific evidence
• Interpreting laboratory analysis and results
• Preparing written reports
• Testifying as an expert witness
• Maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies
• Managing caseloads
• Attending workshops and seminars as required
