Galveston County Man Sentenced for Orange, Texas Bank Robbery

BEAUMONT, TX—A Bacliff, Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for bank robbery in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales.

Samuel David Sanford, III, pleaded guilty on October 8, 2013, to bank robbery and was sentenced to 72 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Ron Clark.

According to information presented in court, on December 19, 2012, Sanford entered the JP Morgan Chase Bank located in the 3100 block of 16th Street in Orange, Texas, and presented the teller with a threatening note demanding money. Sanford was given $25,859 and fled the bank. He was identified by tipsters after the robbery and indicted by a federal grand jury on January 23, 2013.

Sanford has also been ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $25,859.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Orange Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Craft.
