“Reckless Robber” Spray Paints Hair, Robs Third Area Bank

FBI Houston January 22, 2009
  • Special Agent Shauna Dunlap (713) 936-7638

The FBI Houston Bank Robbery Task Force is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the “Reckless Robber,” who robbed the Wachovia Bank at 235 West 20th Street in Houston yesterday afternoon. He is suspected in the previous robberies of at least two other area banks on November 19, 2008 and December 30, 2008 . As in the past robberies, the robber spray painted his hair silver and wore a dark blue jogging suit to commit yesterday’s crime.

At approximately 2 p.m. , the man entered the bank and announced “This is a robbery.” He instructed employees not to push any alarm buttons and threatened “Don’t make me pull out the gun in my waistband.” He threw a black bag onto the counter and demanded cash. Once he had the cash in hand he turned to exit the bank, stopping half way to the door to turn around and advise that if any employee called police before two minutes passed that he would come back and shoot everyone inside the bank.

Witnesses describe the “Reckless Robber” as a white male, 30-35 years old, 5’09” tall, 170-190 pounds, with short dark hair which was spray painted silver. No weapon was seen during yesterday’s robbery, but in past robberies “Reckless Robber” carried and weapon and pointed it carelessly at bank employees.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000.00 for information leading to the charging and arrest of “Reckless Robber” or any felony suspect. If you have information about this case, please call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
