$30,000 Computer Fraud - II
Listen with Windows Media Player
Also available on iTunes

Mr. Schiff: A man hacks into a company’s computer and shuts it down. That’s a case for the FBI.

Mr. Luders: "We got a call from the victim company that said they’d had a computer incident over the weekend.”

Mr. Schiff: FBI Special Agent Jeff Luders says after interviews at the company and doing some computer checks, the FBI got an IP address for the possible computer intruder.

Mr. Luders: "We went back to the company and asked if the name of the individual meant anything to them and they said it was one of their former employees that had quit about six or eight months prior.”

Mr. Schiff: Luders says the FBI got a search warrant and searched the subject’s house.

Mr. Luders: "We seized several computers and some hard drives and different computer media which we then submitted to our forensic experts for analysis.”

Mr. Schiff: Luders says that the subject deleted user names and passwords.

Mr. Luders: "He deleted some files and he physically powered off the servers.”

Mr. Schiff: Now the computer intruder has to pay back $31,000 and serve a year in prison. I’m Neal Schiff of the Bureau, and that’s the FBI’s Closed Case of the Week.”
