Mr. Schiff: You have to pay your taxes. We all do. But one South Florida man got caught...

Ms. Orihuela: "He was charged with conspiracy along with a codefendant to defraud the IRS."

Mr. Schiff: That's Special Agent Judy Orihuela at the FBI's Miami office...

Ms. Orihuela: "Well, in these kinds of cases, yes. We have to look at quite a number of documents to find out what the scheme is and to be able to prove that a crime has been committed."

Mr. Schiff: Orihuela says Agents had to backtrack through the records...

Ms. Orihuela: "We have to go in reverse to get the documents and we have to go back in time to see when it started. It takes investigators with a lot of know-how to be able to do that."

Mr. Schiff: Orihuela says the subjects couldn't hide everything...

Ms. Orihuela: "They used a complex web of bank accounts to evade paying their tax liabilities."

Mr. Schiff: One man was sent to prison for 10-years and has to pay back more than $1.5 million; the second man was given a 25-year sentence for this scheme and another related case. The FBI worked with the IRS and the Justice Department's Tax Division. I'm Neal Schiff and that's the FBI's Closed Case of the Week.
