Being an FBI Special Agent requires the flexibility to take on an investigative and managerial role. Most FBI Special Agents' first assignment involves the investigation of a wide variety of crimes such as foreign counterintelligence, organized crime, drug-trafficking, terrorism, and cyber crimes. As you progress through your career, you will be afforded the opportunity to apply for supervisory and managerial positions. Most managers are responsible for managing investigative programs and personnel who are responsible for the day to day operations of the FBI.

I became an FBI Special Agent to make a difference in my life as well as the life of others. After training, I was assigned to a Field Office where I worked narcotics, terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, police corruption, hostage negotiation, and cyber crime cases. This experience enhanced my analytical and leadership skills. As a result, I became an expert in helping the FBI solve many crimes. The FBI has a great deal to offer any applicant seeking a career in law enforcement.

Here at the FBI Laboratory, a Forensic Scientist analyzes a wide variety of evidence such as hairs, fibers, firearms, DNA, photographs, fingerprints, handwriting examples, and bomb fragment material. I became interested in working for the FBI after watching numerous police and detective shows on how forensic science helped solve crimes. I knew that the FBI was involved in criminal cases both nationally and internationally, and I wanted to apply for a job in that area.

I became a police officer to gain law enforcement experience on conducting investigations. After gaining that experience, I applied to the Laboratory Division of the FBI. I am responsible for conducting hair and fiber comparisons, report writing, and providing testimony in court.

To anyone interested in becoming a Forensic Scientist, I recommend doing an internship or working as a scientist in a research or crime laboratory. When I examine evidence and testify in court, I know that I've made a major contribution in helping the FBI solve crimes.

Being a Language Specialist for the FBI requires written and oral translation of audio, video, wire interceptions, and documents from a foreign language to English. Most Language Specialists work closely with Special Agents involved in criminal and counterintelligence work. This may require you to travel in-country and world-wide conducting interviews, facilitating international law enforcement cooperation, and testifying in court.

I spent two years overseas studying and teaching English. I became interested in working for the FBI after noticing an ad on the Internet for a Linguist.

A Language Specialist should have a strong fluency in a foreign language as well as in English, and have some skill in analyzing unfamiliar foreign material. The FBI needs speakers of every language, however, some languages are more critical than others.

Working for the FBI is a great way to become part of a team. I feel very proud of my contributions to the FBI.

As Chief Computer Specialist, I'm responsible for the operation of all enterprise computers and servers which provide administrative and investigative information to all FBI personnel. I became interested in the Computer Science field in high school. I further pursued computer training through technical school, the military, and college. While working for another federal agency, the FBI contacted me for a job because of my expertise in the computer science field.

Anyone interested in becoming a Computer Scientist for the FBI, should through technical or college training, explore a wide-range of information technologies. These technologies might include software development, web design, networks, hardware and security.

Information is the key to helping the FBI solve crimes and information technology is the tool that helps the FBI disseminate information worldwide. I'm very proud to be in a position that helps the FBI meet it's investigative and administrative missions.
