Position: The FBI's Leadership Development Unit is offering full-time unpaid internships to qualifying students during Spring and Fall semesters. The Leadership Development Unit is located at the FBI Academy on the Marine Corps Base at Quantico, Virginia.

Mission Statement: The Leadership Development Unit's (LDU) mission is to enhance effective, practical, and creative leadership and management practices, as well as a spirit of cooperation among the FBI, municipal, county, state, and international law enforcement leaders. We do this through the design and administration of programs and developmental experiences that foster growth and lifelong learning. We serve as a model of leadership and management skills, and establish excellence and integrity as the measures of our success.

Duties: Design marketing surveys for the leadership programs and in-services for which the Leadership Unit is responsible. Revise handouts and Power Point presentations utilized in presentations. Enter data and conduct analysis of the related research. Assist with distance learning initiatives and related materials. Provide substantial assistance with the many programs, classes, projects, and in-services for which the LDU is responsible. These programs include, but are not limited to, the National Academy Program, Executive Development Programs, National Executive Institute, LEEDS, Regional Command Colleges, and New Agents Training. The intern will conduct research related to LDU projects and programs and provide related briefings to the appropriate instructor.

Qualifications: The student should be majoring in a business related field (such as Human Resource Development, Management Business Administration, Marketing, or also Adult Learning); however, other majors may be considered on a case-by-case basis. The student must have at least a college junior standing, be enrolled at least half-time, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Experience with Corel WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access is very desirable. Proficient written and oral communication skills are required. Also knowledge of distance learning initiatives, and program planning abilities are necessary. The student must be a U.S. citizen and able to provide their own transportation and lodging. The student must be able to qualify under FBI standards pertaining to the use of illegal drugs and must successfully pass a polygraph and drug test as part of the background investigation. This also requires the applicant to be fingerprinted and complete a comprehensive background information questionnaire. Final selections will be contingent upon a successful background investigation by the FBI.

Hours: The working hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Interns will be expected to work 40 hours a week. The internship starts the first week in September for the Fall program and the second week on January for the Spring program. The program is a minimum of 14 weeks.

§ A 1-2 page essay indicating background, interests, goals, an reasons for wanting to participate in the program
§ A resume
§ 1-2 recommendations form a departmental faculty member within your major
§ Transcripts of college credits earned (original copy, include all academic years)
§ Copy of a college term paper or other writing sample written by the applicant
§ SF-86 application form (available from www.OPM.gov)
NOTE: Interviews for finalists are held at the FBI Academy. Transportation costs for such an interview will be borne by the applicant.
