POSITION: The FBI's Budget and Program Management Unit (BPMU) is offering full-time unpaid internships to qualifying students during Spring, Fall, and Summer semesters. The BPMU is located at the FBI Academy on the Marine Corps Base at Quantico, Virginia.

DUTIES: The duties will vary in accordance with the needs of the BPMU and the skills and experience of the student. Generally, duties would involve auditing financial records, analyzing account information, creating and improving spreadsheet programs used to track accounting data. The student may be able to attend portions of certain training courses being held at the FBI Academy to enhance their understanding of the Academy and assist in their career development.

QUALIFICATIONS: The student should be majoring in Business Management or Accounting; however, other majors may be considered on a case-by-case basis. The student must have at least a college junior standing, be enrolled at least half-time, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Experience with microcomputers is desirable, especially with Excel and Access. The student must be a U.S. citizen and able to provide their own transportation and lodging. The student must be able to qualify under FBI standards pertaining to the use of illegal drugs and must successfully pass a polygraph and drug test as part of the background investigation. This also requires the applicant to be fingerprinted and complete a comprehensive background information questionnaire. Final selections will be contingent upon a successful background investigation by the FBI.

HOURS: The working hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. Interns will be expected to work 40 hours a week. The internship starts the first week in September for the Fall program, the second week in January for the Spring program and in May for the Summer program. The program is a minimum of 14 weeks.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Submit the following materials to your school's appropriate department or internship coordinator. School officials or student should then forward the entire packet and faculty sponsorship letter to Mr. Shirley, at the address listed below.
A letter of faculty sponsorship from your college or university
A 1-2 page essay indicating background, interests, goals, and reasons for wanting to participate in program
A resume
1-2 recommendations from a departmental faculty member within your major
Transcripts of college credits earned (original copy; include all academic years)
Copy of a college term paper or other writing sample written by the applicant
SF-86 application form (available from www.OPM.gov or writing to Mr. Shirley - see below)

NOTE: Interviews for finalists are held at the FBI Academy. Transportation costs for such an interview will be borne by the applicant.

DEADLINES: November 1st - if applying for Fall internship beginning the following September
March 1st - if applying for Spring internship beginning the following January
July 1st - if applying for the Summer internship beginning the following May
