Andrews Man Pleads Guilty to Using Internet to Entice Child for Sex

U.S. Attorney’s Office June 18, 2009
  • Western District of Texas (210) 384-7100

John E. Murphy, Acting United States Attorney, announced that in Midland, 41-year-old Paul
Joseph Galvez, of Andrews, Texas, pleaded guilty to using the Internet to entice a minor into
engaging in sex in January 2007. As a result, Galvez will face a minimum of ten years in prison,
up to a maximum of life imprisonment, when he is sentenced in September.

In his plea before United States Magistrate Judge Timothy J. Bommer, Galvez admitted that
beginning in approximately December 2006, he developed an Internet relationship with his
victim, an adolescent boy. Based on the online communications, Galvez traveled from Andrews
to the child’s home in New Mexico, where he performed a sexual act on the child.

Galvez also admitted during his plea that he knowingly possessed more than 200 images of child
pornography that were recovered from his computer during the execution of a federal search
warrant at his residence in April 2007.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Andrews Police
Department. Assistant United States Attorney Kerry Fleck is prosecuting the case for the
government.
