Mount Pleasant Man Sentenced for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon on Indian Reservation

A 23-year-old resident of Mount Pleasant, Michigan was sentenced yesterday to 40 months in custody followed by three years of supervised release, for assault with a dangerous weapon with the intent to do bodily harm, announced U.S. Attorney Barbara L. McQuade.
McQuade was joined in the announcement by Special Agent in Charge, Andrew G. Arena, Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Aaron Jay Barnes pleaded guilty on June 29, 2011 to assault with a dangerous weapon with the intent to do bodily harm. In March 2011, Barnes repeatedly kicked the victim with a steel toed boot while on the Isabella Reservation. The victim was hospitalized and received nine staples in his head and deep bruising as result of the assault.
The case was investigated by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police, and special agents of the FBI. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office.
