DALLAS—Jeffrey Stewart Ewing, 23, and Clarence Jerome Hogg, 24, were sentenced to 41 and 24 months in federal prison, respectively, for breaking into and robbing a closed bank earlier this year, announced U.S. Attorney James T. Jacks of the Northern District of Texas. Ewing and Hogg each pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery and have been in custody since their arrest shortly after the robbery. They must serve their sentences without parole.

According to documents filed in the case, at approximately 4:20 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, Ewing and others broke into the Ironstone Bank located at 9667 N. Central Expressway, in Dallas. They disabled the alarm system and the surveillance equipment. They proceeded to saw open the vault and took the money that was inside it. Ewing and one of the suspects, known as “Red,” left the bank in the getaway vehicle driven by Hogg.

Officers with the Dallas Police Department located them at a gas station, but Ewing and “Red” fled. Officers chased Ewing and found him hiding in the backyard of a nearby residence. Officers arrested Ewing and Hogg, but “Red” wasn’t apprehended. U.S. currency was found in and around Hogg’s vehicle.

The case was investigated by the Dallas Police Department and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Phelesa Guy prosecuted.
