Arkansas Man Guilty in Texas Bank Robbery

TYLER, TX—A 61-year-old Smith County, Texas man, formerly of Arkansas, pleaded guilty to federal bank robbery charges in the Eastern District of Texas announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.
Eddie Ray Myers, formerly of Searcy, Arkansas, pled guilty to bank robbery today before U.S. Magistrate Judge John D. Love.
According to information presented in court, on July 14, 2010, Myers robbed BBVA Compass Bank branch located on South Broadway in Tyler, Texas. Myers entered the bank, passed a note to the teller stating, "No alarms—no dye packs, I have a gun—smile." He then fled the bank with U.S. currency. A federal grand jury returned an indictment on Aug. 4, 2010, charging Myers with bank robbery.
Myers faces up to 20 years in federal prison at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.
This case is being investigated by the FBI and the Tyler Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Allen Hurst.
