LUBBOCK, TX—Wesley Ray Haddox, 31,of Snyder, Texas, was sentenced this morning by U.S. District Judge Sam R. Cummings to 210 months (17.5 years) in prison, following his guilty plea in April 2010 to one count of receipt of child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney James T. Jacks, of the Northern District of Texas. In addition, Judge Cummings ordered that Haddox, who has been in custody since his arrest in February 2010 on related charges, serve a lifetime of supervised release. Snyder is located in Scurry County, Texas, approximately 90 miles southeast of Lubbock.

According to documents filed in the case, Haddox admitted using a “peer-to-peer” file-sharing program on his computer to download videos of child pornography. In the course of searching for videos depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, Haddox downloaded and saved approximately 58 such videos.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
