McKinney Man Guilty of Child Pornography Violations

PLANO, TX—U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 68-year-old McKinney, Texas man has pleaded guilty to child pornography violations in the Eastern District of Texas.

JAMES OSCAR JONES pleaded guilty to an Information charging him with transportation of child pornography today before U.S. District Judge Don D. Bush.

According to information presented in court, on Aug. 13, 2007, Jones used an e-mail account to send images containing child pornography over the Internet. He was also found to be in possession of between 150 and 300 images of child pornography. Some of the images depicted children younger than 12 years of age engaged in sexually explicit conduct, including images portraying sadistic and masochistic conduct.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. Jones faces up to 20 years in federal prison at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.
This case is being investigated by the Federal bureau of Investigation and the Plano Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mandy Griffith.
