Bishopville Man Charged with Embezzlement

COLUMBIA, SC—United States Attorney Bill Nettles stated today that John Muldrow, age 39, of Bishopville, South Carolina and the former Director of Lee County Public Works, was charged in a one-count Indictment arising from the embezzlement of county funds. The Indictment alleges that from January to May, 2010, Muldrow converted county property valued at more than five thousand dollars ($5,000) to his personal use.

William Nettles stated the maximum penalty Muldrow could receive as to Count One is up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a maximum fine of $250,000.

Mr. Nettles stated that the case was investigated by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and that he has assigned the case to Assistant United States Attorney Mark C. Moore of the Columbia office for prosecution. The United States Attorney stated that all charges in this Indictment are merely accusations and that all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
