Columbia Man Faces Child Porn Charges

COLUMBIA, SC—United States Attorney W. Walter Wilkins stated today that Michael Giuliano, age 22, of Columbia, was charged in a two-count Indictment with distribution and possession of child pornography.

Giuliano was arrested by federal authorities on June 18, 2009, following an investigation. He is being held without bond in the Lexington County Detention Center.

The maximum penalty Giuliano could receive is a fine of $250,000 on each count, and imprisonment of at least five years up to 20 years on the distribution count, and up to ten years on the possession count.

This case was investigated by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Dean A. Eichelberger of the Columbia office for prosecution.

This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims. The United States Attorney stated that all charges in this Indictment are merely accusations and that all Defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
